party time

We went to our first party on saturday night (a blessing for our 6 month old friend Felix that started at 5pm!) Rakaia wore one of her special hats made by Granny Jillian and almost stole the show. We had a lovely time - making lots of new friends - and were still home in bed by 9 o'clock.

We never get sick of bath shots!

1st playtime...

Our friends in NZ Tony and Tracey gave RR a special mat to play on (thanks again!) and we had our first go on it today. RR was batting the toys around with her little fists but i'm not sure if she's made the connection yet that it was her making them move. She was certainly kept interested though....

So this is the first week that Kate and Rakaia have spent at home alone with the nanas gone and Joel back at work, so we've been having fun hanging out +getting into the swing of things. Just before RR was born Joel decided to quit his hardcore mega stressful legal job (which is ironically the reason we came out to gippsland in the first place!) and take some time out - so he's spent the last 4 weeks with us which has been great. This week he started a casual 3 day a week job. Hopefully this will be relatively easy going and he'll still be getting to spend 4 days a week at home with us. YAY!

We love bath time

Our little munchkin...

Everybody always thinks that THEIR baby is the cutest.
In this instance it's true!
Well, parenthood has really set in now and the days seem to have flown by since Rakaia was born... hard to believe she'll be a month old in 6 days!!!

Those of you who keep up with the news will be aware that there has been major flooding in our area in the last couple of weeks. Heavy rain in the mountains came washing down all the rivers that feed into the lakes system. The water rose around 150cm in metung (my educated guess) - the marina and boardwalk went completely under and a few low lying houses were threatened. Once the storm died down Rakaia and I went out in the sling to survey the scene....

the white posts behind me poking out of the water are along the edge of the sunken boardwalk

Sadly we fell victim to the floods in our own small way - Joel drove back to melbourne intending to be away just for a night and ended up being trapped for 3 days because the roads were flooded. Luckily Nana Lavinia was here to look after Kate and Rakaia.
